A room divider is a bold style statement  to retain a sense of unity, blend in your addition using matched colours, materials, or even lighting

Remember that when adding a room within a room, the larger space will still read as one unified area – choose a single material for showpieces; install integrated lighting across the existing space and the new addition; or paint a uniform colour on walls to bring the two areas together. If you are intending your ‘pod’ to operate as a room divider, consider materials that will allow light and sight lines to run the length of the original space, to maintain a feeling of openness. Glass is an obvious – if expensive – choice, while wooden or even paper dividers will let light and air pass through while creating a sense of a separate room. Check out Molo Design’s freestanding honeycombed-paper Softwalls for inspiration.

Resale

Unusual, architect-designed additions to homes can restrict the potential market for resale, but are often a selling point. Simply be aware that some features will limit your potential market if you ever wish to part with your project.
