This lavish bathroom is one of many in this stunning manor house set in the beautiful French countryside
The BriefThis is a huge bathroom, some 50sqm in size, and the couple wanted it to be luxurious and indulgent. ‘I wanted the bath to be the focal point of the room,’ says Denise. ‘We also used beautiful Italian tiles on the floors and walls.’ The Best Bit‘I love the romantic effect of the draped curtain around the bath; it feels sexy and very French,’ says Denise. ‘And we positioned the bath so you can make the most of the views as you soak.’ With Hindsight‘Spend time planning before laying the tiles,’ says Denise. ‘The room is a fully tanked wet room and it was the first wet room I’d tiled. I started in the middle and only realised at the edges that I hadn’t allowed enough slope to allow water to drain away. We had to build a little raised entry barrier in the end.’ Top TipFor real luxury, add wow factor with something like the freestanding bath that acts as a focal point and really finishes the scheme. PROS & CONS
PROS
- This is a huge space that feels decadent both because of its size and the quality of all the materials used.
- The freestanding bath invites indulgent bathing and acts as a focal point.
- A fully waterproofed wet room means the design is functional.
CONS
- You need a big room for this type of design to work successfully.
- You can’t scrimp on individual items – everything in this room is of the highest quality – making it an expensive option.

Doug Ibbs and Denise Daniel have a plethora of bathrooms to choose from in their beautiful French manor house, but one of their favourites is the luxurious and romantic master bathroom suite, with its freestanding bath, walk-in shower and Italian limestone tiles. There are views of the French countryside from the window, which the couple can enjoy while sipping champagne in the bath.
