Building Regulations require that notice is given to the local authority at certain stages of the build

Building Regulations Inspection Stages

Stage of Work Notice Required
Prior to Inspection
Commencement Two days
Excavations of foundations One day
Concrete foundations One day
Damp-proof course One day
Hardcore over site One day
Drain connection with sewer One day
Drains inspection One day
Drain backfilled and ready for test Within five days
Final completion/occupation before completion Five days

When these stages are reached, work should stop to give the local authority time to make a thorough inspection. You will be advised if the work does not comply with the Building Regulations.

If the local authority is not informed of relevant stages of work for inspection it may, by notice in writing, require the work to be opened up for inspection so that it can be ascertained whether or not the work complies with the Building Regulations.
